Dissipates

Dissipates

~

She always leaves with a smile,

eagerly arrives dragging hope like a blanket

frayed and old.

Love dissipates with time I was told

and hers lacks the gleam of fresh start

feeling worn like old shoes that we keep in the closet

and we can’t toss away.

And I knew that such love wouldn’t stay

when it’s fine to watch flames from afar

but to burn in the blaze, that we need!

Because love without fire

becomes cold with no warning or sign,

just a glow in the distance

of the flares burning out over time-

“I felt her absence, it was like waking up one day with no teeth in your mouth. You wouldn’t need to run to the mirror to know they were gone”― James Dashner, The Scorch Trials
